Pixels4Bednets have launched a massive campaign in partnership with MillionDollarNoticeboards.com to provide bednets for children at risk or suffering from Malaria.
[UKPRwire, Tue Jan 24 2006] In October the financial magazine Money Week published an article about student Alex Tew’s MillionDollarHomepage, and the idea of MillionDollarNoticeboards™ was born.
Founder, Peter Culpin, noticed that Alex Tew called his website a ‘noticeboard’. He saw the potential for hundreds of themed ‘Noticeboard’ web sites, aimed at specific consumer groups, with interests as diverse as gambling, dating, slimming, fashion, motoring, travel, pets and gay weddings. The Network will create a massive portal of categorised information side by side with related advertising, linked to more than 3 million other websites.
“Pixel Micro-advertising gives even the smallest company a huge opportunity to reach millions of potential customers cost effectively,” said Peter, “plus enormous possibilities for cross selling across the groups.”
MillionDollarNoticeboards™ immediately filed a trade-mark listing, and registered over 300 ‘Noticeboard’ domains. In October 2005 it launched its first ten websites, and will continue rolling out the rest over the coming months, offering $100,000 worth of free advertising on each site on a ‘first come first served’ basis.
Since Alex Tew launched his MillionDollarHomepage, over 350 similar sites have sprung up on the Internet, but all of them have been haphazard and untargeted. Other pixel sites with themed pages have not thought through the concept fully. By having individual but networked websites MillionDollarNoticeboards™ intends to expand the opportunities exponentially.
“However, as well as offering massive potential to advertisers,” said Peter, “my co-directors and I soon realised that there was also enormous potential to do something worthwhile.”
“Shortly before the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park, I had a chance meeting with Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York, author of ‘The End of Poverty’, friend of Bono, and special economic advisor to Kofi Annan and the G8. From that meeting came the idea of Pixels4Bednets™.”
“Three thousand children die every day from malaria, explained Jeff. That just didn’t seem right to us, because all these children need is a bed net to protect them from the mosquitoes that carry this deadly disease. These bed nets cost around $2.50 and have a 5 year life span. The reason these children don’t have them is that their families are too poor to afford them.”
So, every 100 pixel block of advertising purchased on any ‘MillionDollarNoticeboards™’ homepage will provide a minimum of 10 bed nets, and prevent the unnecessary deaths of ten children from this deadly, preventable disease. If we succeed in filling every home page with advertising we will have provided 30 million bed nets, and that simply has to be worthwhile.
“This is not just a commercial exercise,” said Peter, “it’s an opportunity to save lives.”
