UK and US Entrepreneurial Team's Marketing E-book Hits the Virtual Shelves
British and American author team up to write a ebook on Internet marketing.
[UKPRwire, Thu Jan 26 2006] There was Antony and Cleopatra, Gilbert and Sullivan, Lewis and Clark, Beanie and Cecil, and now there's Garnell and Thompson.
What do all these famous characters have in common? Well, two of them are puppets, and except for Garnell and Thompson, none of them ever did anything over the Internet!
Cathrine Garnell, a Nottingham resident and the author of "Basil, The Bionic Cat" , met Tim Thompson, a Massachusetts resident and author of "The Idiocy and the Oddity", on an Internet message board focused on their great common love – cats. They were delighted to discover they were both authors and exchanged works. Thompson loved " Basil" for its delightful English humour and quaint village descriptions. Garnell was impressed with the humour in Thompson's parody of Homer's epic.
In their correspondence, the two discussed their marketing experiences for their works. Garnell had gone the traditional approach, with her book selling well in many UK bookshops while Thompson opted for the Internet Ebook approach for his work. Garnell was interested in developing a broader reach using the Internet as well and developed a Web site dedicated to her book (http://www.bionicbasil.com)
The two soon realized that a good, honest book about Internet Marketing would be of benefit to their readers and formed an international collaboration. They used e-mail and a popular word processor to share files and edits and came up with "A Marketing Feast -- Cooking Up a Strategic Internet Marketing Plan." (http://www.clydesight.com/CUCMS/)
"We have different writing styles," says Thompson, "and I feel that Cathrine, with her classic British education has a fluid command of the language that is lacking in American English. It adds a certain flair that American audiences respect." For her part, Garnell felt Thompson was a technical master. "Tim has wonderful practical side. He came up with activities, which we call "marketing recipes", that impressed me. They are like cookbook recipes for marketers. Yankee ingenuity at work! "
They both agreed on the focus of the book. "It's very much a 'how to' book," says Thompson, "because that's what we found lacking in our research and experience. People need to know facts and how to do things, not read rhetoric and false get-rich-quick promises. And, of course, good marketing is as important in the UK as it is in the US."
Garnell found a similar need, "I met village store owners wanted to get into Internet sales, but could not find anything that would take them step by step through the process. Since Tim and I had already done this work, why not lay it out in a simple, entertaining format so others can learn and do likewise?"
The topic is so large that they decided to do a series. Since they were using the cookbook recipe format, they called it: "Cooking Up Customers for Marketing Success."
The first book in the series, "A Marketing Feast" deals with the "Marketing Triangle" and is published by Tim's company, ClydeSight Productions. Its available for immediate download at: http://www.clydesight.com/CUCMS/
