Freight companies are told to employ a CPC holder or risk prosecution
Training provider, Alliance Learning are warning freight companies in the region to ensure they employ a Certificate of Professional Competence holder or risk prosecution.
[UKPRwire, Mon Oct 29 2007] Training provider, Alliance Learning are warning freight companies in the region to ensure they employ a Certificate of Professional Competence holder or risk prosecution.
The Goods Vehicles Regulation (amended 1984) stipulates that anyone within the UK wishing to operate freight vehicles over 3.5 tonnes e.g. a flat-bed wagon, curtain-side wagon, a box wagon or anything larger, must hold or employ someone who holds, the Certificate of Professional Competence National Qualification. While companies operating outside the UK must also hold an international CPC.
Alliance Learning will be offering the CPC qualification from 19th November and are urging freight companies to make sure they have appropriate CPC cover or they could be breaking the law. Mike Salt, CPC course tutor for Alliance Learning commented:
“Any company, from haulage and logistics companies to warehouses who operate vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, needs to be aware of the legislation. Alliance Learning are enrolling now for their CPC course starting 19th November. The course is very intensive and requires a full 8 days training to prepare for the 3 examinations. Despite claims from some training providers, you cannot complete a full National CPC training course in less than 8 days.”
A company requires at least one person to hold a CPC and holders are then validated for life. The CPC is the Department of Transport’s national standard in demonstrating professional competence and is awarded by leading UK awarding body OCR. The course covers areas such as:
• Vehicle Taxation
• Drivers Hours
• Digital Tachographs
• Mechanical Conditions
• Transit of Goods
• Maintenance
• Business & Company Law
• Health & Safety Legislation
CPC courses are run four times a year to coincide with nationally held CPC exams. The next examination date is in December and Alliance Learning are taking bookings now for their CPC course beginning on 19th November. Participants should enrol now to avoid disappointment.
