Naming your car

[UKPRwire, Sun Mar 29 2009] Many people choose to name their car; it’s a way of personalising their vehicle and a way to include the vehicle as a member of the family. Just as people anthropomorphise their pets, many people humanise their cars, giving them human traits and speaking to them as if they can understand.

This might sound a little crazy, but for hundreds of years people have named their transport – horses, oxen, donkeys and mules. As the world changed the habit clearly hasn’t quite died out yet. In addition to this, people spend hours and hours in their cars every week, and because drivers must care for their cars and check their oil, water, fuel and tyres, amongst other things, it’s only natural to name the thing you spend so much time and money on.

When choosing a name for your car there are many factors to take into account. Some of these include the cars colour, size, speed, purpose and even its model name.

You might want to call your Ford Focus the ‘Hocus Pocus’ or your black Yaris ‘Black Beauty’. You could consider naming your little green car ‘Froggy’ or your silver long wheel base Landrover “Long John” after the famous pirate, Long John Silver. There are no names too ordinary, too boring, or even too crazy for your car.

There are other ways to personalise your vehicle, from colours, auto tattoos and body paint to interior and exterior modifications and additions, but the most personal (and the cheapest!) way to make your car yours is to name it.
Whatever you choose to name your car, you will still need insurance for it. It is also possible to personalise your motor insurance to suit you – you can opt for a low cost no frills policy or you can go all out and include extra cover, breakdown cover or whatever you like. When choosing a car insurance policy, compare prices and look around – some companies offer great deals at less than you might expect.
