Niche TV Programme Reaches 70 . . .

The Caravan Channel, Britain only specialist caravan, motorhome and camping TV programme has reached 70 editions.

[UKPRwire, Fri Jul 03 2009] Britain's only continuously produced Caravan, Motorhome and campign programme, The Caravan Channel, has just premiered its 70th programme on Information TV, Sky channel 166/Freesat 402.

The programme was started in October 2006, and broadcast four editions in that year - since the start of 2007, it has been broadcasting a new programme every two weeks, each programme being transmitted 6 times before the next edition is premiered.

"When I started the show, it was a very amateur effort," says producer and presenter Chris Gosling. "Although I had considerable journalistic and video experience, I'd never made a programme before - so it was a very steep learning curve!"

"People in the TV industry now say that watching The Caravan Channel is just like watching a 'proper' programme in terms of the way it looks - but that it is very different insofar as it is made by people who clearly walk the walk as well as talk the talk!"

"Making conventional TV about subjects like caravanning and motorhoming would mean that cast and crew troop of a cosy hotel at the end of the shoot - but on The Caravan Channel, we nip back in the van and get the kettle on! he added.

In the three years since Gosling started his business, it has also produce 26 programmes about boating, a one-off motoring show, and is now in production for two new series which are also showing on Information TV - Goodbye 9 to 5! for retired people, and Countryside Britain for work and recreational countryside users.

"Our two new shows are made to address two more very specific audiences - it's the kind of thing niche broadcaster Information TV excels at," Gosling said. "We put together the programme package, they broadcast it, and in the very new world of minority satellite broadcasting, the audience gradually discover us!"

The Caravan Channel is broadcast at 7pm on Information TV, Sky channel 166 and Freesat 402 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings. A new programme starts every other Wednesday and runs for two weeks. There's a website at www.caravanchannel.tv

Goodbye 9 to 5 and Countryside Britain both broadcast 6pm on the same channel, on alternate evenings, Monday to Saturday. Websites are at www.goodbye925.tv and www.countrysidebritain.tv.
