Now you see it... Now you don't with Huntsman Adhesives
Huntsman Advanced Materials announces the use of Agomet® adhesives in automotive manufacture
[UKPRwire, Tue Dec 13 2005] Automotive designers and manufacturers can now ensure their designs are visually flawless by using Agomet® Adhesives from Huntsman Advanced Materials. Offering fast reaction and bonding time, Agomet® F300 and Agomet® Hardener Lacquer offer an industry first by eliminating the need for traditional screws and rivets in automotive bonding processes.
Decoma International, a global supplier of exterior vehicle appearance systems, approached Huntsman Advanced Materials when they required a unique bonding system. Karl-Heinz Schneider, project engineer at Decoma comments, “Traditional bonding methods involve the use of screws or rivets to securely bond exterior panels to a car’s A-frame. We approached experts at Huntsman to provide us with an alternative to the traditional methods. By using the Agomet® F300 and Agomet® Hardener Lacquer 2, we have eliminated the need for screws and rivets and with the help from Huntsman we have been able to provide our customers with perfect optical exteriors.”
The successful application of this bonding system can be seen in the Audi A4 Cabrio. Agomet® F300 and Agomet® Hardener Lacquer 2 have been used to bond aluminium bolts and coated aluminium trim to the aluminium frame for the car’s A-column.
Karl-Heinz Hack, from the German sales team at Huntsman Advanced Materials, comments, “As the automotive industry continues to develop there is an increasing demand from designers to work with materials that enhance the overall visual affect. Agomet® adhesives provide a superior bonding solution whilst eliminating the visual imperfections created by traditional bonding methods.”
Agomet® F300 is a fast curing methacrylate adhesive for separate surface applications that can join dissimilar substrates at ambient temperatures. In the automotive A-column bonding application Agomet® Hardener Lacquer 2 can be sprayed onto the aluminum parts hours, or even days, before the required bonding process. Agomet® F300 is then applied to the surface and the parts are fixed together. Thanks to its high curing rate parts bonded with Agomet® F300 can be handled after 2-4 minutes of the bonding process. The result is shock and peel-resistant bonds with high moisture resistance making Agomet® F300 and Agomet® Hardener Lacquer 2 an ideal solution in automotive manufacturing.
Agomet® F300 can be applied to bond a wide variety of materials including steel, aluminum, copper, ABS, polystyrene, rigid PVC, polycarbonate plastics, polyphenylene oxide plastics, molded polyester parts and hard paper.
