AIR ROUTE DEVELOPMENT EXPANDING DESPITE AVIATION INDUSTRY PRESSURES

Record attendance of airlines, airports and aviation industry suppliers forecasted for 13th World Route Development Forum

[UKPRwire, Mon Mar 26 2007] The 13th World Route Development Forum to be held in Stockholm, 23-25 September, is attracting a record numbers of delegates from airlines, airports, European slot coordinators and aviation industry suppliers. The global forum facilitates strategic air route development through enabling airlines, airports and slot coordinators to meet, discuss, and formalise new routes.

The 2007 event, hosted by Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and the City of Stockholm, is forecasted to attract 650 airports, 350 airlines, tourism authorities and economic development agencies spanning more than 120 countries. For the 7th year, European Union Airport Coordinators Association (EUACA) will attend the Forum in advance of its biannual meeting in Stockholm on September 26th.

For the first time in a commercial setting, representatives from EUACA will be able to action requests for new or amended slots in real time. Trialed at the 2006 Forum in Dubai, the system will go live at the Stockholm event to provide ¡¥one-stop-shop¡¦ capability for airline and airport delegates to formalise agreements.

All air carriers sectors will be represented, from low-cost to scheduled, to premium airlines. In the low-cost category, representation will range from the innovator of low-cost travel, Southwest Airlines, to the newest European entrant Clickair. The majority of Premium carriers are confirmed to attend and scheduled airline registrations are forecast to exceed previous years.
This year¡¦s event will also feature a newly-established Routes Cargo Zone, in recognition of the importance of the cargo sector.

Commenting on the increased presence of all industry sectors, Mike Howarth, Chairman of Routes, said: ¡¥The significance of Routes¡¦ events for air route development, and the economic importance of the industry, is evidenced by the increasing number of high level delegates attending from all sectors. In addition to facilitating commercial agreements, the event will also allow for expert knowledge to be shared in the form of specialised industry briefings and industry specific co-located events.¡¦
