[UKPRwire, Thu Feb 01 2007] In 2006 British consumers spent £30.2 billion online, according to the IMRG. Online sales were up by 40% from 2005 and online shopping now represented 10% of total UK retail sales – a 20 fold increase from 2000.

There are an estimated 250 million online shoppers, according to the Interactive Media in Retail Group and a survey carried out by them on the first half of 2006 suggests that online sales are growing faster than traditional retail. During Christmas 2006 £7.66 billion was spent online during Christmas 2006 and that was a 54% increase on the previous year’s Christmas online spend. This year online spending is expected to further increase and YouGov are predicting online sales in Christmas 2007 to top £10 billion.
