Luxury Goods Mogul, Simon Critchell Joins Auctioning4u Board

[UKPRwire, Mon Apr 23 2007] Auctioning4u, the UK’s leading chain of eBay drop-shops is delighted to announce that Simon Critchell, former senior executive of luxury goods giant Richemont has joined its board as a Non-Executive Director.

He came across the eBay consignment company when clearing out his house, ‘I was having a bit of a clear out and discovered things that were really too good to throw away. I didn’t have time to use eBay myself but had been told about Auctioning4u and their brilliant home collection service by a friend. The collection team came round and took everything off my hands and the company did the rest. Six weeks later I got a surprisingly big cheque through the post!‘

Simon has 20 years of experience in the luxury goods retail and wholesale sectors. He began his career at L’Oréal in Paris and later in Canada before moving to New York where he was appointed President of the Lancôme luxury cosmetics division of L’Oréal USA.

In 1990 Simon moved to the North American arm of Swiss luxury goods company, Richemont. He was appointed President and Chief Executive of Cartier, North America, a position he retained for ten years before becoming Chief Executive of Richemont North America. Shortly after, Simon was brought in as CEO to breathe new life in to Richemont brand, Alfred Dunhill Ltd. In March 2006 he left Richemont to concentrate on more entrepreneurial roles.

Simon has sat on various boards including several jewellery industry associations and the Board of the New York Academy of Art. He was also a member of the Corporate Council of the Whitney Museum in New York. Currently he is an advisor for men’s fashion brand, Ermenegildo Zegna.

Auctioning4u CEO, Christian Braun, said: ‘Simon and I started a dialogue after he used Auctioning4u’s services and was impressed with the business. We have made significant inroads working with large Consumer Electronic and Computer manufacturers and retailers and are now talking to major fashion brands. I’m delighted for our board to have access to Simon’s vast experience and contact networks.‘

Simon Critchell added ‘Having used the service privately and been more than impressed I would have no qualms in using the company’s business arm as well. If a service like Auctioning4u had existed during my time at Richemont I would have used it for liquidating end of season stock. On the consumer side, I see Auctioning4u becoming an essential service for people who are increasingly time poor and, as we become more environmentally aware, an excellent way to recycle household objects that still have years of life left in them.
