[UKPRwire, Wed Mar 28 2007] Last week saw the dictionary definition of the ‘McJob’ under fire once again by the global company. In 2003 McDonalds CEO Jim Cantalupo rejected the description - coined by the Canadian novelist Douglas Coupland in his 1991 novel Generation X - as an “inaccurate description of restaurant employment”.

In response, Roy Bowles, Managing director of meta-morphose International said recently, “We welcome applications from former McDonalds staff as the training they have received not only boosts their team working skills, but gives them a customer friendly outlook, which many forget is in fact vital for a career in sales.”

The Oxford English Dictionary defines a McJob as: "an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, especially one created by the expansion of the service sector."

Ironically the ‘McJob’ moniker has become synonymous with the entire service industry – a sector that according to the ONS amounts to 82% of UK employees.

And yet, recent articles by the BBC suggest that the McJob is filled with employees who are “happy”, “motivated” and determined to succeed, despite perceptions to the contrary.

“We have met increasing numbers of university graduates and high calibre individuals who have proudly talked about the developmental benefits that McDonalds has given them, continued Roy Bowles. “What’s clear is that the ‘McJob’ has given them skills crucial not only to the service industry, but to any position that requires customer interaction and team building abilities. Candidates looking to transfer into the business to business world of professional selling find that our sales training and coaching programme is the next logical step.”

meta-morphose is currently filling business to business sales roles throughout the UK and Northern Europe and provides all successful candidates with a comprehensive three stage training and personal coaching package in their first year. This year meta-morphose clients were credited with 15 finalists at the National Sales Awards and winners in every category entered – all had passed through the meta-morphose training and coaching programme. meta-morphose has also recently been awarded a top ten place in the Sunday Times “Best 100 Small Companies to work for” awards.
