Plumb Center welcomes the review of Building Regulations

Plumb Center welcomes the Department for Communities and Local Government exercise to identify what changes are needed to ensure the Building Regulations continue to operate effectively in the future.

[UKPRwire, Wed Aug 18 2010] Plumb Center welcomes the Department for Communities and Local Government exercise to identify what changes are needed to ensure the Building Regulations continue to operate effectively in the future. The DCLG is inviting ordinary people, businesses such as Plumb Center and local authorities to submit their ideas about what needs to be done.

The aim of this is not only to establish where it is absolutely necessary for regulation to be changed or updated, but also to look for where they can strip away regulation - either because it is unnecessary or because there are other ways to achieve the same outcomes.

The DCLG wants to ensure that the Building Regulations are proportionate and remain fit-for-purpose, responding appropriately to changes in technology, science, build practices and construction techniques.

“While Building Regulations have achieved a great deal over the years, including the move to A-rated condensing boilers and the more recent changes to Part G covering enhanced hot water safety and water efficiency, it is vital that they are managed and maintained carefully,” said Alan Stevenson, Trading Director Plumb Center. “We welcome any initiative that involves consultation with those who have to operate within, and comply with, the Building Regulations on a regular basis.”

The DCLG is asking for ideas about how the regulations can be improved, added to, or slimmed down and suggestions as to how they can deliver even better levels of compliance in the future.

Ideas should be submitted by the end of August to the Department at: building.regulations@communities.gsi.gov.uk.
