SERIOUS PLAYERS CONFIRM REAL INTEREST IN VIRTUAL WORLD
Viral buzz leaves first Serious Virtual World Conference with “virtual room only” for last minute delegates.
[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 19 2007] Europe’s major players are waking up fast, to the real business opportunities evolving in the virtual world according to organisers of last week’s inaugural Serious Virtual World conference. The event, which originally anticipated delegate numbers of between 150 and 200, could offer “virtual room only” to an additional 150 plus attendees keen to see what all the fuss was about when viral word-of-mouth sparked a last minute surge of interest within Europe’s business community.
The news comes as the event’s organisers, Ambient Performance, confirm fresh support for a follow up conference dedicated to Enterprise Virtual Worlds next spring. Ambient Performance’s Ron Edwards comments: “The time is right for serious players in the virtual world and we want to make sure that this critical, thought provoking forum continues to grow and develop. We’ve tapped in to a new wave of interest within today’s business community and the larger than expected attendance numbers provide the mandate we need to innovate even more as the event and industry matures. As the job of staging the follow-up conference gets underway, we’ll also be working closely with The University of Coventry’s Serious Games Institute to build on the interest we know is there. More creative ways for the real and virtual worlds to do business together will be explored via a series of workshops and the next Serious Virtual Worlds conference which we’ll produce again with the new institute.”
Still available online, virtual attendee numbers continue to grow and could exceed several thousand before the second live event is staged next spring.
