Sock Aid Chosen as the Perfect Sock Solution for Older People with Mobility Issues
A daily activity, which lack of movement may make more restrictive with age or illness related mobility - the everyday task of putting on and taking off socks is set to become easier again for Britain's growing elderly population.
[UKPRwire, Tue Nov 09 2010] Sock Aid is like no other similar product on the market due to an innovative, ergonomic design - no need for cords or ties to pull on socks and no need to bend the knee, just a simple patented design to make this automatic part of getting dressed effortless.
Sock Aid consists of two simple-to-use products - Easy On Sock Aid - a polypropylene, open ended tube channel and Easy Off Sock Aid - similar to a flexible pronged shoe-horn with a short T bar handle. With one quick action, this product brings back the simplicity of wearing socks or other kinds of hosiery such as nylons and special medical light compressive stockings.
Sock Aid was launched earlier this year as a dynamic new product for the mobility market. The product is the brainchild of Czech businessman Daniel Urbanek, who initially designed the product for his mother following her hip replacement operation. He watched her attempts with another "sock assist" product which required her to use cords to pull her socks on and felt he could produce a better designed product which had no strings attached.
The result was Sock Aid, which gives the user full independence. There is no help required from others, nor is there a need to bend down at any stage. Moreover, Sock Aid is so versatile it can be used with one hand only!
Easy On Sock Aid requires the user to lay a sock at the hollow of the Sock Aid channel. The heel of the sock is then rest upon the slot entrance, with the toe of the sock pointing downwards. At the ankle, the sock is pulled down over the tube. The sock is then turned inside out and opened up. A hand can be placed inside the sock ensuring sure the heel is in the correct position for entry.
The Sock Aid is then lowered to the floor and with the foot straightened and toes positioned over the open sock, the foot will slide gently into the sock.
The reverse process is just as simple. The pronged end of the Easy Off Sock Aid tool is placed between the top of the sock and the ankle. The user then pushes the tool down the back of the sock and as the foot is slightly raised, the prongs catch the cuff of the sock.
With the foot fully on the floor, the handle is dropped and with the other foot holding the tool in place, the sock is easily removed.
Indeed, the removed sock will remain attached to the prongs of the Easy Off Sock Aid. The user simply rolls the handle of Easy Off Sock Aid with the other foot to return the tool to an upright position and bring the sock to hand.
