Workshops to boost Midlands manufacturing efficiency

The West Midlands is set to get a manufacturing boost off a series of expert seminars and interactive workshops

[UKPRwire, Fri May 04 2007] West Midlands’ manufacturers can now better position themselves to beat off global competition through a series of manufacturing best practice workshops and seminars taking place at three new venues throughout the region.

The Manufacturing Advisory Service – West Midlands (MAS-WM) is once again offering manufacturers a chance to improve their operational efficiency through expert advice on topics ranging from ‘effective problem solving’ and ‘overall equipment effectiveness’ to new product introduction and manufacturing strategy. Now in to their fifth year, the free of charge events have to date attracted over 2,000 delegates.

This year the manufacturing best practice workshops will take place at Stourbridge and Coventry Rugby Clubs and Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club. The sessions aim to address operational efficiency and the increasing competitive pressure facing local manufacturers. Experienced manufacturing practitioners will deliver ten manufacturing best practice workshops with practical, up to date company examples used to reinforce learning.

The workshops are ideally suited to managers, supervisors and owners who are committed to improving their manufacturing performance. Although priority is given to small and medium sized manufacturers, larger manufacturers are also welcome to participate. This year attendees also have the opportunity to attend a series of manufacturing best practice visits in conjunction with Coventry University’s Inside Manufacturing Excellence programme.

David Wright, Chief Executive of MAS-WM, said: “I strongly urge manufacturers to take advantage of the series of workshops, designed to help companies achieve productivity gains, and raise their level of competitiveness”.

He adds: “Simply competing on price today is not enough. Competitive advantage must be sought in areas such as productivity improvement and product development.

The workshops enable manufacturers to learn and subsequently implement best practice; added to this, firms can now benefits from seeing their learning in action through an excellent best practice visit programme.

The workshops are due to take place throughout the year. To find out dates, themes and how to register, please visit the events section of the website –
