YOTEL Deploys Innovative Multi-Application Network to Support Business Operations at Gatwick

Converged network solution from TFM Networks prioritises business applications and delivers cost-effective communications for airport hotel chain

[UKPRwire, Wed Aug 08 2007] Pioneering airport hotel chain YOTEL has deployed an advanced, multi-application network to run and prioritise all business operations at its London headquarters and the recently opened Gatwick airport hotel, and are constructing Heathrow which opens in late summer 2007.

In a project designed and implemented by virtual network operator TFM Networks, YOTEL has deployed a converged network architecture which incorporates voice, video and data-based business applications to maximise throughput and business productivity cost-effectively.

The network solution will handle all of YOTEL’s business requirements, from time-critical, secure operations such as credit card acquiry and the handling of customer details, to the streaming of IP-based CCTV and digital television, and providing high-speed wireless Internet access for business and leisure travellers staying at the hotel.

The multi-application solution consists of two DSLs – an MPLS connection and an ADSL max connection – enabling YOTEL to maximise bandwidth availability, guaranteeing core business functionality at all times but also offering the flexibility to support a large number of other applications in a cost-effective manner.

A key element of the project involved working closely with airport operators BAA at all stages of the design and implementation, to address all security issues relating to operating a network within BAA’s own on-site network infrastructure.

Nigel Buchanan, operations director at YOTEL said: “By opting for a converged, multi-application network, we have the high-availability and bandwidth we need to handle and prioritise business operations, whilst also being able to control cost – an important consideration for us as we launch the YOTEL concept.”

Brett Rowe, sales and marketing director at TFM Networks said: “YOTEL’s network deployment is a key example of how a multi-application approach can work. Prioritising time critical applications over others allows us to provide the necessary bandwidth to support all business operations and crucially, to also offer the wireless Internet access and technology today’s traveller demands. This really is a true converged network design.”
