Free mobile learning insights from Ufi and Kineo

As more learners carry MP3 players, PDAs and mobile phones with them on their daily journeys, can learning come along for the ride? Which formats, topics and devices are right for mobile learning, and what are the practicalities of building m-learning? Ufi and Kineo have collaborated to address these questions – and share their insights and experiences with mobile learning in a new free guide.

[UKPRwire, Mon Oct 01 2007] In a national first, Ufi, the company behind learndirect, the UK’s largest e-learning network and Kineo, the leading rapid e-learning organisation, have pooled their knowledge and expertise to create a best practice guide to mobile learning.

Called ‘Mobile Learning Reviewed’, the guide explains

• What we mean by mobile learning
• Which devices can be used
• Who’s likely to use mobile learning
• Design models for mobile learning
• How three mobile learning prototypes were developed and lessons learned
• Final pointers for mobile learning

Kineo and Ufi have collaborated to develop three mobile learning prototypes to put design approaches into practice, using video assets sourced by Ufi combined with Kineo’s rapid e-learning design expertise. As part of its innovation and good practice sharing agenda, Ufi is pleased to share an example of mobile learning.

Kirstie Donnelly, Director of Products and Marketing at Ufi/learndirect says:

“Ufi/learndirect seeks to set new standards in the use of technology and learning to improve the experience for its customers. We’re well aware that many of our learners use mobile devices every day, so it’s imperative we explore the potential for delivering learning via these devices. I’m also personally very keen on reusability of digital assets in a range of learning context. Our recent collaboration with Kineo to develop mobile learning prototypes clearly shows the potential for m-learning to work for us, and to effectively re-purpose existing digital assets with value added through new materials. We’re pleased to share our findings and insights with the broader learning and training community through this guide.”

Stephen Walsh, Kineo partner, says:

“We’re delighted to continue our collaboration with Ufi/learndirect in this fourth in our series of guides on key issues in learning and technology. We’re particularly interested in the intersection of rapid e-learning and mobile learning. Ufi challenged us to find rapid models that can be used to create effective and engaging mobile learning. We believe the results of this pilot, as documented in the guide, clearly demonstrate that rapid e-learning models fit perfectly in the m-learning space. They’re yet another example of how rapid e-learning can help organisations deliver cost-effective learning solutions at speed.”
