[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 19 2007] Flintshire Celebrates Business, the inaugural Business Week event for the county, promises to get the pulses of its computer professionals racing on Thursday, the 4th of October. Valerie Holt, One of the founders of the UK’s original Internet Services Provider, Pipex, is the key note speaker at the Business and IT day at Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold, Flintshire. Valerie’s a serial entrepreneur with company directorships from Hong Kong through to the USA and is currently working with local software company Shopfitter.com.
Simon Allen, Shopfitter’s Managing Director, will be running a seminar explaining how to get the best out of an online business through techniques such as search engine marketing. He will also be talking about practical on line payments following their recent award for their work with Checkout, Google’s Paypal equivalent.
Other events during the day will include the first public demonstration of Destiny Wireless’s Digital Pen and Paper in Wales. This technology promises to revolutionise the way we all interact with computers in the future. The breakthrough is not the hardware, but the interaction. Steve Manley, Area Manager for Wales explains, “What’s more natural than using a pen to write on paper? Now, with thanks to this new equipment, catching up with paperwork will be a term from the past!”
Other highlights will be presentations from local companies Samarind and Comtek, both based in Deeside Industrial Estate. Multi Award winning developers, Samarind will be discussing the problem and general frustration of people trying to adapt to computer systems rather than using alternatives. Comtek will be discussing the Environmental issues.
They are well qualified, being, possibly, the largest refurbishes of computer equipment in the country.
“What’s more environmentally friendly than recycling?”, Asks Comtek’s Chris Grasby, “How about repairing and refurbishing under licence from the manufacturers. Not only aware we saving thousands of tons of equipment from hitting the landfill, we are bringing down the price of quality hardware for small business!”
The whole event is being sponsored by BT. They are also worried about the environment and have created a carbon footprint calculator. This can be found on the official event website, www.flintshireceleb.biz. They will also be holding a showcase of their latest products and services. It promises to offer small business a chance to get a better understanding of how they can save money on their telecoms.
This free event is aimed at small businesses based in Flintshire. The day has been managed by Flintshire’s ICT Advisory Service, part of Flintshire County Council’s Environment and Regeneration Business Support Team.
