[UKPRwire, Thu Mar 16 2006] EGGER’s new EUROLIGHT® product, a lightweight sandwich board, was presented for the first time at the recent ZOW exhibition in Germany. EUROLIGHT® meets an increasing demand from the furniture market for lighter construction materials as well as suiting the current design trends within the industry to use thicker, chunkier styles to create higher value products.

The benefits of lightweight boards are not just applicable to flat pack furniture. The lower weight reduces overall transport costs whereas process-related costs such as within the product assembly, are also cut.

EUROLIGHT® is a sandwich construction with surface layers of either EGGER’s high-strength thin chipboard or thin MDF with a honeycomb cardboard core.

In cooperation with machine suppliers Siempelkamp and Homag, experts from EGGER have developed a large-scale industrial line which will be installed early in summer 2006. As such, the first European production of large-sized lightweight boards (5610 x 2070 mm) will be commissioned in EGGER’s St. Johann plant, Austria in September 2006. The line will have a daily capacity of more than 1000 m3. Boards can be produced up to a total thickness of 100 mm and it will be possible to produce frameless boards for subsequent further upgrading processes.

As well as the possibility of producing boards without frames, EGGER will offer 3 standard frame options made either from MDF or chipboard in 10, 38 and 65 mm width. The frame can be installed – depending on the specific customer requirements – on two or four sides. All decorative edges can then be easily applied to the stabilizing edge. The frame construction also allows boards with a thickness of up to 80mm to be postformed, dependent on the profile.

Furthermore, EGGER can also offer lightweight products as prefabricated furniture elements in milled, drilled or free-formed designs up to a thickness of 60 mm.

The possibilities to use EUROLIGHT® are extensive – for example, for kitchens and worktops, within shop-fitting and exhibition construction, for internal doors, tables, shelves and office furnishings.
EUROLIGHT® will be available in all decors within the EGGER Global range, dependent on minimum order quantities, with each décor available in a wide range of co-ordinated materials – an essential success factor within the modern market.
