LUCKY BRA AND LUCKY KNICKERS…..BRITONS CLING TO ANYTHING THAT MIGHT BRING GOOD FORTUNE

[UKPRwire, Fri Nov 20 2009] A lucky bra, lucky knickers, an itchy hand and wishing on an eyelash are just some of the things Britons rely on to bring them good fortune, according to a nationwide survey undertaken by online gaming provider Winkbingo.com.
More than a quarter of the 1000 people surveyed still believe that passing a black cat will bring them good fortune, just ahead of those who look for a four leaf clover (24%), those who place their faith in certain gemstones (17%) or those who believe horseshoes are indeed capable of delivering good luck (10%).
The lucky knickers belong to an 18 year old woman in Silsden, West Yorkshire; the itchy hand to a 37 year old woman in Sutton, Surrey, whilst it’s a 37 year old woman in Glasgow who wishes on an eyelash.
The survey also showed that we still hold dear to numbers we perceive as lucky. Nearly a fifth of respondents claimed 7 to be their lucky number, way ahead of the 8% who mentioned 13 and the 6% who opted for number 3. Other numbers in the top ten were 8, 5, 14, 6, 9, 17 and 4 respectively.
But quite why we think those numbers are lucky is less clear. 54% of respondents who said they had a lucky number said there was no particular reason behind their choice; 24% of people use the date of their own birthday, 13% a family member’s birthday whilst only 3% use their wedding anniversary for good luck.
