Launch of "Gulp!" campaign asks: "If not now, when?"
A leading executive coach and author whose work has inspired TV presenters Nicky Hambleton-Jones and Sarah Newton to follow their dreams is launching a campaign to push the British public ‘out of their comfort zone’.
September 4 to 10 has been designated “Gulp! Together” week by Gabriella Goddard, who also counts bosses in FTSE100 companies among her clients.
The campaign will urge people to re-examine long held ambitions and take a step towards following their dream – and says Gabriella, this could be the perfect antidote to the September post holiday blues.
Whether it be writing a novel, climbing a mountain, taking on a college course or finding a partner, Gabriella says that the week of the campaign will be the perfect time to make your decision, swallow your fear (Gulp!) and go for it.
[UKPRwire, Mon Aug 07 2006] Gabriella, author of “Gulp!: The seven day crash course to master fear and break through any challenge” (Penguin, UK) said: “How many times do you say: ‘I'll do that when I'm...older, richer, more confident, have more time’ - but why wait? The only thing really stopping you is fear.”
During the Gulp! Together week, Gabriella wants people to publicly pledge their own Gulp! aim at www.gulptogether.com.
The interactive website offers advice, online forums, regular motivational emails, blogs, and a zone for success stories to support participants throughout the month of September.
She adds: “As an added incentive, you can support your favourite charity in the process by asking your friends and family to sponsor you through your Gulp!
“This way, your Gulp! won’t just change your life, it will make dreams come true for others as well.”
Gabriella herself is proof of her own teachings.
Travelling the globe as an international marketing executive, working 80 hour weeks for a £100,000 salary, she thought her life was going well. But losing her job three months after committing to a hefty mortgage, followed by finding a lump in her breast, made her re-evaluate life’s priorities.
Finding the ‘lump’ sent Gabriella’s emotions into turmoil. She says facing her own mortality made her question whether she was truly happy with her life. The answer was a resounding ‘no’. She had compromised on her dreams.
When she found out her lump was benign, Gabriella vowed not to waste this wake-up call. She picked herself up from a deep depression to follow her childhood dream of writing a book and setting up in business on her own.
Using her corporate knowledge she re-trained in personal coaching – giving advice to Sarah Newton, presenter of ‘My teen’s a nightmare . . . I’m moving out!’ and ‘Ten Years Younger’ star Nicky Hambleton-Jones among others.
Her book, ‘Gulp!’, which was published in April this year urges people to follow her example and strive for goals that will make them happy – even if it means a total change in lifestyle – her motto being ‘If not now… when?’
Gabriella added: “It took my own real ‘gulp’ moment – a cancer scare - for me to realise we only get one chance in life. We need to find out what’s really important to us and follow our heart.
“I realised there is no time like the present, because there is nothing but the present. The past is over and the future is what we create it to be.
“I want to encourage people to look deep inside and ask themselves – is this what I want my life to be? I don’t want them to wait for a life-changing moment like I did.
“The only way to start is to swallow your fear, Gulp!, and go for it.”

CASE STUDY - Sarah Newton: “How I became the voice of troubled teens”
==========
Sarah Newton has dedicated the last ten years of her life to helping teenagers address the issues they face in today’s seemingly ‘anti-teen’ society. Through her ITV2 show ‘My teen’s a nightmare . . . I’m moving out!’ she has become widely recognised as a leading expert and voice speaking up for troubled teens.
After working as a police officer and witnessing the suicide of a 15-year-old boy wracked with angst, she knew she wanted to help youngsters who feel they have nowhere to turn, but didn’t know where to start.
It took the help of an inspirational coach to turn her into an inspirational coach herself.
With her first book, aimed at parents of teens, due out in February 2007, Sarah would like to pay tribute to the woman who gave her the push to make her ‘the voice of the troubled teen’ - Gabriella Goddard, author of ‘Gulp! The seven day crash course to master fear and break through any challenge’ (Penguin).
Sarah’s inspirational message to us all is that you can follow your dreams and make a difference – you just have to make the decision, swallow your fear and doubts (Gulp!) and go for it.
Gabriella Goddard will be running a ‘Gulp! Together’ Campaign from September 4th – 10th, challenging each of us to step outside our comfort zone and do something we’d really love to do but are waiting until we’re richer, older, less stressed, have more time . . .
Whether it be changing career, climbing a mountain, writing a novel or taking on a college course, Sarah is proof that there is no time like the present and you never know where that first step will lead you.
Sarah said: “I was floundering without direction before meeting Gabriella. I had the grand idea that I wanted to help teens find a voice and be heard, but didn’t have any idea how to make that happen.
“Gabriella helped me focus and put together a plan of action. I was afraid of pushing myself forward and being in the limelight, but I faced my Gulp! head on and within three months of working with Gabriella I was signed up with Jamie Oliver’s talent agency, Fresh Partners, and the TV show soon followed.
“I also never thought I’d write a book, and here I am about to be a published author!
“Gabriella’s taught me some major life lessons. You’ll never get anywhere unless you try and don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. They may be clichés, but they are so true.
“After all, as Gabriella says, if not now . . . when?”
