Naked introduces UK-made 100% recycled plastic bottles

The 97% natural toiletries brand Naked, is introducing PET packaging that is made from 100% Post Consumer Regrind (PCR) material, from November 2007.

[UKPRwire, Wed Nov 14 2007] The 97% natural toiletries brand Naked, is introducing PET packaging that is made from 100% Post Consumer Regrind (PCR) material, from November 2007.

As a 97% natural toiletries brand, Naked is concerned with being kind to skin and the environment ( http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk ) and so introducing recycled packaging seems the obvious next step for such a brand. This is thought to be the first launch of a UK Personal Care product in UK manufactured bottles in 100% PCR material.

Louise Potts, founder of Naked said:
“We were determined to offer this environmentally-friendly packaging solution to our customers, as we know that they are as concerned as we are about the environment. We believe that small change can make a big difference and we are forever striving towards a business that has a minimal impact on the environment – we think this is especially important for a brand that gains so many of its ingredients from natural sources. These bottles are not aesthetically perfect but we don’t believe they have to be – it’s what’s inside that counts and the benefits far outweigh the way they look.” (http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/naked-news-flash.html )

All of Naked’s 250ml hand washes and hand lotions will appear in the PCR plastic bottles, alongside its entire range of foam baths, a total of seven products (http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/bath-cid219.html ). The remainder of the range will continue in HDPE plastic, as Louise explains “PCR ‘PET’ is a rigid plastic so we have used it for all of our products which are not required to be flexible i.e. our customers don’t need to squeeze them. As soon as we can find a flexible PCR solution that works with our formulations, we will work quickly to introduce it across the whole range.”

The recycled bottles have been manufactured by M&H Plastics, the Beccles-based innovative moulding company, in conjunction with Naked. Kevin Spall, UK Sales Manager of M&H Plastics said:
“As part of our Environmental Policy M&H Plastics has been working for some time now on being able to bring to the market place a range of sustainable packaging solutions that can not only be manufactured in recyclable plastics but also material that has been recovered from the waste stream, post consumer use. Louise quickly picked up on the development work we have undertaken and has been the first customer to place a bulk order with us for bottles that are manufactured using 100% PCR material”.

This is not the first environmentally-friendly initiative that Naked has undertaken since its launch three years ago; in fact it is just one of many, as Naked has always had strong ethical values (http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/eco-worriers.html ). As well as being 97% natural and free from many ingredients which have a detrimental impact on the environment, Naked is made in the UK in order to minimise its carbon footprint, it’s ingredients are ethically sourced whenever possible, the secondary packaging for its Christmas 07 gift sets is made from mainly recycled materials and is totally compostable, and in 2007 Naked has given more than 10% of the company’s profits to environmental charities.

Naked’s PCR new packaging will be available from November 2007 – look out for the Born Again logo on pack. Naked is sold exclusively in Boots stores nationwide and online at http://www.nakedbodycare.co.uk/index.html
