TraineeSolicitor.co.uk has today made its submission to the Law Society’s consultation on whether the Law Society should continue to play a role in the regulation of trainee solicitors’ salaries.

[UKPRwire, Fri Dec 08 2006] TraineeSolicitor.co.uk has today made its submission to the Law Society’s consultation on whether the Law Society should continue to play a role in the regulation of trainee solicitors’ salaries.

The view of the majority of the posters on TraineeSolicitor.co.uk is that the Law Society should continue to play a role. Over the past two months, users of the site have posted numerous messages in support of the minimum salary and there has been a fierce debate on whether its removal would lead to exploitation or further competition in a free market.

“The users of TraineeSolicitor.co.uk have expressed their opinion that a minority of firms are already exploiting those without training contracts, by offering them low paid paralegal positions on the promise that they might be considered for a training contract. Many of these promises are unlikely to be fulfilled. If the minimum salary was removed, a minority of firms might be tempted to offer extremely low salaries to potential trainees and it is likely that those offers would be quickly accepted. This would lead graduates into further debt.”
