[UKPRwire, Fri Nov 06 2009] We know Lily Cole as the successful model who has walked the runway for designers including John Galliano and Louis Vuitton, as well as working on campaigns for high street stores such as Accessorize and Marks and Spencer. But now the multi-talented Lily is directing her attention towards acting.
The last two months has seen British model Lily star in two major film productions: Rage and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. She is also finding the time to study History of Art at King’s College Cambridge.
Lily has always loved acting but decided to direct her attention to modelling when she was discovered by Benjamin Hart aged fourteen, and then taken on by Storm Models. “I was always away modelling so much, it didn’t make sense for me to do drama, because you have to rehearse with the whole group,” recalls Lily. “But acting was the thing I always loved.”
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which was released in the UK last month, is the highly anticipated film from director Terry Gilliam (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Twelve Monkeys, Monty Python and the Holy Grail). It features a star-studded cast including Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law.
However, much of the buzz around the film centres on the poignant fact that The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is the last film in which the late Heath Ledger will appear.
Lily speaks fondly of Heath and the help and direction he offered her whilst working on the film. “He definitely helped me,” she says. “From the beginning he understood that I would be overwhelmed and scared by the size of this project. He encouraged me and said he was really proud of me, constantly fed me support.”
With a number of other film projects in the pipeline, we’ll no doubt be seeing a lot more of the model-turned-actress in the future!
