[UKPRwire, Thu Nov 12 2009] Former busker Angelina Kalahari, who enjoyed headlines after being invited by the Queen to sing at Buckingham Palace, has swapped her pitch on the London Underground for a career performing and recording classic arias. The lyric soprano singer has released her first classical music album, Arias for Love.
The album, which is available for download exclusively at www.downloadclassicmusic.com, contains well-known romantic arias and art songs including Puccini’s Un bel di vedremo from Madame Butterfly, and Handel's Laschia Ch'io Pianga from the opera Rinaldo.
Angelina Kalahari is one of the first artists to take advantage of a new scheme available at DownloadClassicMusic.com which allows artists to upload their own recordings which then go on sale as downloads. Artists make a commission on sales of up to seventy percent of the price charged to the customer. Angelina first hit national headlines when she was asked to sing at Buckingham Palace by the Queen after she had become a regular at London’s Green Park underground station where she had built a loyal fan base, regularly showering her with flowers, chocolates and thanks.
DownloadClassicMusic.com which launched this week already has a cornucopia of some 7000 music tracks available for download – a figure which is rising every day. Lindsay Fairgrieve, Founder and Executive Producer of Rickshaw Productions Limited, the website’s owner, said: “Our classical music shop is the online equivalent of the local independent music shop that used to store mainstream and less well known versions of pieces of music. We think giving musicians and performers the chance to upload their own recordings is important to both global audiences and the artist.
“You only have to go into a large bookshop to see they have more books than an independent but less choice in the number of titles and authors. We’ve recreated the sense of discovery and serendipity for music lovers.”
