[UKPRwire, Fri Jan 22 2010] What better way to ease yourself back into the routine of work after Christmas than with a nice relaxing facial? The only problem is finding the time and money to get to a salon. Here is modelling agency Models Direct’s guide to doing your own facial at home.
First of all gather everything you’ll need before you get going. Having a facial is meant to be relaxing and it won’t be the same if you have to keep getting up to find things.
Start your facial by cleansing your skin, making sure you remove all traces of dirt and make-up using circular movements for a perfect clean and to improve circulation. Next, remove dead skin cells by exfoliating your face, being careful to avoid the sensitive eye area. After each of these steps use warm water to rinse your face clean.
Now it’s time for the fun part! Help to open your pores by either steaming or using a warm, damp towel. If you are opting for the steaming method boil some water and pour into a bowl. You can add a few drops of essential oil (for example, lavender, eucalyptus or chamomile) to add to the relaxing experience. Wait until the water has cooled enough for you to hold your face over the steam comfortably, placing a towel over your head to catch the steam.
If you have decided to use a towel, again boil some water, adding fragrance if you wish. Soak a towel in the water and wait for it to cool enough to leave comfortably on your skin. Wrap the towel up and around your face with your chin in the centre of the towel, opening the edges so your face is covered. Sit back and relax for around five minutes as your pores open.
Models Direct advise that before you start the facial process you should find a face-mask that works with your skin type, bearing in mind that because of the cold weather you might want to choose something more hydrating than you normally go for.
Apply a substantial layer of the face mask to your skin, avoiding getting too close to the eyes. Find a comfortable seat to lie back and relax, placing fresh slices of cucumber or tea bags steeped in cold water over your eyes. If you’re really lucky and have a nice partner/family member/friend who’s willing, ask them to give you a hand or foot massage at the same time for ultimate relaxation. You can do the same for them another time!
After leaving the face mask on for around ten minutes (or however long the instruction state) use a warm wet towel or flannel to remove the mask. Just make sure you get all of it off or risk some funny looks when you leave the house!
Finally, apply moisturiser to your face taking the time to massage it in properly for ultimate relaxation. Again, if you there’s a nice person around, ask them to do this bit for you!
