[UKPRwire, Fri Dec 18 2009] You may not be size zero but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a market for you in the modelling industry. Models Direct modelling agency deals with models of all sizes, including plus size female and male models. If you think you’ve got what it takes, read on to find out more.

Plus size models are beginning to make more of an impact on the fashion industry. For example, Crystal Renn is a popular model choice in fashion circles, Mark Fast dared to do something different at London Fashion Week by putting larger models on the catwalk and there is even a fashion week dedicated to plus size clothing. Many will also be aware of the praise that American Glamour received back in September for printing beautiful photos of model Lizzie Miller, who is considered too large even for plus size modelling.

While this shows the beginning of a change in direction for the high fashion world, it is in the commercial modelling sector that plus size models are most likely to succeed. Advertisers are beginning to appreciate that the public wants to see people they can relate to in campaigns, and it has even been said that the recession has caused a trend for more ‘reassuring’ models of a realistic size.

However, as with any area of modelling the industry is competitive and that is definitely something to think about when considering the start of a modelling career. Models Direct has compiled some top tips and requirements for those who are looking into plus size modelling:

• Focus on the little things. Make sure your hair and nails are clean, tidy and well maintained. Ensure your skin is clear and radiant: your diet will have an influence here so eat a healthy, balanced diet and drink plenty of water.

• Confidence. When meeting a client at an assignment or on a casting it is important to be confident and show professionalism, but without coming across as arrogant. Show off your winning smile and be friendly, models for advertising need to seem approachable. If you have low self-esteem or don’t feel comfortable with your body it will come across in photos or on screen.

• Measurements. Despite plus size models being larger than we see in high fashion, measurements are still important, especially if you are considering plus size lingerie modelling. Height can be important to some clients and they will want to hire a tall woman with long legs; however, this is not true for all assignments.

• Generally, plus sized female models are UK sizes 14-16, although there is work available for larger sizes. Just like other models, it is important for plus size models to maintain a healthy lifestyle to keep a toned physique.
