Further information about the Band below…
Formed in 1987, Sovereign Brass achieved great success in a short space of time. As Fourth Section Champions at the 1989 South Midlands and East Anglia Championships, they went on to win all ‘Area’ sections in consecutive years. Area & National Championships successes continued with the band making its first appearance in the Championship Section at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992.
3rd prize in the Championship Section at the Midlands Area Contest for 2004, confirmed them as a re-emerging force in Midlands banding. The Band then improved on that result by winning the Midlands’ Area contest in 2005, and were being crowned Midlands Champions once again.
As a result, they qualified for the finals of the National Brass Band Championships held at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2005. They also competed at the inaugural English National Championships in 2006 and have competed regularly at such contests at the All England Masters and the Grand Shield. All of this means they are no strangers to the finest concert halls across the UK.
Away from the contest arena, the Band has recorded sessions for BBC Radio 2’s Friday night programme ‘Listen To The Band’, and played live on BBC ‘Radio 5 Live’, recorded an advert for ITV and even making a memorable appearance in an episode of the popular BBC TV series ‘Dangerfield’. Developing links with the BBC have seen the Band headline BBC Midlands’ popular ‘Mad About Music’ event for the last two years and they perform each year at the Birmingham St George's Day concert at Symphony Hall which airs on Radio WM.
Recorded at BBC Pebble Mill, Sovereign Brass is especially proud to have produced its debut CD – ‘Polished Brass’ – comprising an eclectic mix of easy-listening music.
