[UKPRwire, Tue May 19 2009] Shamim Sarif, award-winning novelist, script writer and director takes multi-tasking to another level. After adapting two of her own novels for the big screen, directing both efforts to critical acclaim and writing the lyrics for two songs on a soundtrack, both films will be released back to back in the US and Canada in November 2008.
Sarif’s success with “The World Unseen” started when the novel took home two prestigious awards and continued after she brought it to the big screen – winning seven awards, being selected into the Toronto film festival’s prestigious Discovery section for the world premier and picking up 10 nominations for the 2009 South African Film and Television Awards, including Best Director where Sarif was the only South African nominated.
To add to the list of achievements, Shamim and partner Hanan Kattan are handling all their own film sales via their company Enlightenment Films and have created their own music label, Enlightenment Records, to release the film sound tracks. Shamim is also in the process of directing two music videos for each film, to be released early 2009.
“The World Unseen” and “I Can’t Think Straight” are scheduled for general release in the US and Canada in November 2008 and “The World Unseen” will be released in South Africa early 2009.
