The Funny Side Announces New Comedy Club Near St Paul's
Award-winning comedy promoters The Funny Side are to open a second club, ‘The Funny Side…of The City’ on Thursday 25th September 2008.
[UKPRwire, Fri Aug 29 2008] Based in the historic City of London, the new club will build on the success of the company’s existing venue ‘The Funny Side…of Covent Garden’ which, in just over two years, has grown from running solely on Sundays to being the only London club to offer top class stand-up comedy five nights a week.
The Funny Side…of The City will offer the same high quality comedy for which the Covent Garden club has become known; having played host extended sets and ‘secret gigs’ by the likes of Harry Hill, Barry Cryer, and Simon Amstell and standard sets by an array of TV regulars and award winners including, Mark Watson, Paul Sinha, Phil Nichol, Andrew Lawrence, Rhod Gilbert, Mark Steel, Paul Tonkinson and Stephen K Amos.
The club will be hosted at ‘The Spectator Bar’ (6 Little Britain, London EC1A 7BX - just a stone’s throw from St Paul’s) and will initially run every Thursday, with a view to expanding to other nights should the shows prove popular.
“We’re delighted to announce the launch of our second venue, ‘The Funny Side of The City’” said Zoë Abbott, Partner in The Funny Side. “We have spent a long time trying to find the right venue in The City and believe that the Spectator is it. It’s a great bar, in a great location close to St Paul’s, with a fantastic range of food and drink. We hope that our focus on booking only the very best comedians and creating a special atmosphere within the club, coupled with their emphasis on quality and service will prove appealing to discerning City audiences”.
Appearing on the first night of The Funny Side…of the City will be: Alistair Barrie, Matt Welcome and If.Comedy Nominee Andrew Lawrence.
