[UKPRwire, Fri Aug 20 2010] The seasons are beginning to change (a little too soon for most of us) and autumn is almost here. The spring/summer 2011 Fashion Weeks are just around the corner but before we can don the summer dresses again many will want to know what to wear through the cold months. Here modelling agency Models Direct offer their tips for updating your wardrobe.
1. Capes. Capes were popular on the catwalks of fashion houses including Halston and Yves Saint Laurent for autumn 2010 but they may take some getting used to. Rather than spending money on a cape with the risk of not liking it, try draping your jackets over your shoulders with your arms out of the sleeves to see how you get on. Models Direct suggest ignoring your inner child who gets the urge to run around with your arms out pretending to be a superhero.
2. Bows. Bows were featured everywhere on the catwalks last spring, used as embellishment for the sleek and feminine silhouettes and can create a classy look. If you’re the creative type you could save money by updating bags, shoes, belts and clothing by sewing or gluing bows on yourself.
3. Buttons. Or rather the lack of buttons. This winter try fastening your clothes with something different such as large decorated safety pins or badges. Richard Nicoll even used decorated bulldog clips in his collection!
4. Tangerine. The colours featured on the catwalks in spring were often quite dark and murky but sometimes you need a bit of colour to cheer yourself up in the darker winter months. Follow Celine and Rick Owen and invest in tangerine accessories to give your outfit a boost. Models Direct advise keeping the splashes of orange quite small to avoid look garish. You also shouldn’t try to clash this colour with others in your outfit but instead use it to liven up a simple and chic outfit.
5. Belts. Chunky knits are a popular choice for autumn and winter but can often feel too bulky and unflattering. However, this season you can follow the trends by using a thin belt fastened around the waist to make the look more feminine. You could even use a piece of ribbon tied with a pretty bow to do two trends in one.
