[UKPRwire, Thu Mar 19 2009] In many parts of the world water is becoming a scarce resource. 70% of all water consumption goes into farming, 22% is used by industry and businesses and the remaining 8% is used by households. At the same time too much water is being wasted. An increase of 15% in water efficiency would be enough to provide sufficient communal water requirements worldwide. Roca – a world leader in sanitaryware – has recently launched a product which reduces water consumption by 25%.
The innovative and sustainable solution is called Roca W+W, which is short for Washbasin + Water closet. The wash basin and the water closet are designed in one piece. The water from the wash basin is collected in a tank, which is equipped with the new Roca ‘Reusing Water’ technology. This technology is an automated cleaning system preventing the growth of bacteria and bad smell. The recycled water in the tank is then used to flush the toilet. This design helps to save 25% of water.
Roca W+W helps to save water and at the same time it is a unique product which combines functionality, sustainability and a user centred design philosophy. Roca has been working with outstanding architects and designers such as Moneo, Chipperfield and Herzog & De Meuron.
Roca runs an Innovation Lab and works in interdisciplinary teams to research various consumer needs from an anthropological, ergonomic, technical and social point of view. The goal is to detect future needs by analysing consumers’ behaviour and market developments. Based on these insights the teams design and develop new concepts and solutions.
Earlier this month the product received the Design Plus Award for its innovation and sustainability. The Design Plus competition is held every two years under the aegis of the Design Council and the German Chambers of Commerce Association.
