Emma Watson - Direct From Model To Designer?

[UKPRwire, Tue Sep 29 2009] Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has taken her new found interest in fashion a step further.
Earlier in the year we saw the young actress appear as a model in autumn/winter advertising campaigns for British heritage brand Burberry. Just months later, she has become involved with ethical fashion label People Tree, recently joining them as a Creative Advisor.

Watson, whose passion for fashion first became apparent when she was noticed on the front row at several catwalk shows during February and March, is already due to release a clothing collection with the People Tree brand.

The line is comprised of 41 styles, 15 of which are for men and the rest for women. There is also a small accessories range due to enter stores in late February 2010. The ethical clothing collection is described by People Tree as “clean, sexy and easy to wear”. It includes cotton t-shirts, knitwear, jersey dresses, poplin skirts and shorts.

Much of the range uses organic and fairly traded cotton and the clothes are made entirely by hand by fair trade groups using weaving, knitting and embroidery, helping to create livelihoods for disadvantaged groups in Bangladesh, India and Nepal.

Nineteen-year-old Emma seems very happy with her choice of collaborator and their humanitarian approach to fashion.

"I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with," she comments.
Models Direct have noticed a growing awareness around the need for sustainable clothing production, which is essential for the welfare of those in developing countries, and for generations to come.

Emma Watson is certainly a worthy role model for young people, who she hopes will embrace her collection and the concept behind it.

"I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there,” she says.
