Bonfire's Night can create a lot emissions through travel, fireworks and of course the actual bonfire - co2balance can help to balance the amount of carbon dioxide that is created so people can enjoy a carbon zero Night.
[UKPRwire, Tue Oct 31 2006] As well as “remember, remember the 5th of November”, Taunton-based carbon management company co2balance.com are asking people not to forget the environment this Bonfire’s Night.
The hundreds of fireworks and bonfire parties that will be going on over the weekend will provide a fantastic visual feast, but many people may not know of the potential damage that the 5th November can have on the environment, with the fireworks and bonfires creating tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Mark Simpson from co2balance said: “We hope everyone has a fantastic and safe time this weekend, and this year we are offering people the opportunity to have a green bonfire’s night. We are encouraging people to offset the CO2 that will be created as a result of their parties by planting trees, as trees naturally absorb CO2 as they grow”.
“As well as exploding fireworks, when we burn the wood on the bonfires CO2 is released into the atmosphere and it is too much of this CO2 that is causing climate change. By planting trees you can offset the CO2 that your party will create. Of course not everyone has the space to plant trees, and co2balance.com can help by planting and maintaining trees in one of its plantations on people’s behalf to ensure that CO2 is taken out of the atmosphere”.
“If we all did this then we’d have a Carbon Zero bonfire’s night this year, and that will be something that is well worth celebrating”.

Notes to Editors:
About co2balance ltd:
co2balance’s aim is to provide a simple, practical and cost-effective way to individuals and businesses of reducing their ‘carbon footprint’ and then balancing their unavoidable carbon dioxide emissions through investment in woodland planting and energy efficiency. After providing advice on carbon reduction, co2balance will arrange to offset the residual CO2 emissions.
About carbon dioxide:
Carbon dioxide is produced primarily through the burning of fossil fuels (used for electricity generation, the powering of vehicles etc). This gas is the chief culprit, due to the volumes produced, of what is commonly known as ‘the greenhouse effect’. This then results in climate change, which has serious environmental and economic impacts, and is believed to be the cause of the extreme weather conditions the world is witnessing with increasing frequency.
About woodland in the UK:
The UK’s woodland coverage has improved over the last century. Only 5% of the country was under woodland in 1924 but by 2005 this had risen to 12%. However this is still low when compared with other European nations like Sweden (66%), France (28%) and Spain (29%). New woodland not only helps to absorb atmospheric Carbon Dioxide but also provides community woodland, improved biodiversity and an economic resource.
