[UKPRwire, Wed Jul 29 2009] Smurfit Kappa Recycling will be offering RWM’s local authority visitors the chance to visit the Smurfit Kappa paper mill in Nechells, Birmingham to see exactly what happens to the material collected through the fully traceable mixed paper grade service it provides for 18 councils across the UK.
“When the materials markets collapsed late last year, it became even more important for councils to find reliable contractors who could guarantee collections and offer transparency of final destination. Smurfit Kappa Recycling can do this because our paper mills in Birmingham and Kent provide a reliable market for 500,000 tonnes of material annually. For the first time we are inviting any council waste managers or recycling officers visiting RWM the chance to see for themselves how we turn their paper and card into new packaging materials, ” said Smurfit Kappa Recycling’s managing director, Simon Weston.
Smurfit Kappa Recycling provides bring banks at hundreds of local authority sites where residents can recycle their “mixed papers.” Mixed Paper can include newspapers, magazines, cardboard, directories, Yellow Pages, envelopes and all fibrous-based packaging materials from cereal boxes to ready-meal sleeves, and is not just limited to newsprint, which can help to drive up recycling rates. It also offers councils the option to deliver direct to its mills or any of its eight depots located across the country (all now certified to BS EN ISO14001, the internationally-recognised Environmental Management System Standard, and OHSAS18001, the Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard).
“Increasingly councils are finding that Smurfit Kappa Recycling can meet their requirements for a sustainable UK solution which maintains material quality and minimises carbon footprints, with a cast iron guarantee that all of their paper and card will be used in our mills,” says Mr Weston.
A limited number of places will be available on the mill tours taking place in the morning and afternoon of 15 and 16 September, with complimentary transfers from the NEC. To register your interest please call 01827 891008 or e-mail recycling.uk@smurfitkappa.co.uk
