Sustainable energy charity calling on community groups to become greener by using the free help avai

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is encouraging community groups in the South West to take advantage of the free support available to them through the DEFRA-backed Every Action Counts programme

[UKPRwire, Tue Sep 11 2007] The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) is encouraging community groups in the South West to take advantage of the free support available to them through the DEFRA-backed Every Action Counts programme.

Every Action Counts provides information, materials and games designed to help community groups improve their communities and make them more sustainable, by taking action in five key areas. These areas are saving energy, travelling wisely, shopping ethically, saving their resources and caring for their area. The programme gives groups a uniquely democratic, systematic and fun approach to improving their green credentials. They can set themselves a clear path for improvement, monitor their progress and use their experience to inspire others.

Every Action Counts is also offering local people who are interested in improving their community two days of free training, to arm them with the knowledge and skills to help community groups make a difference in their area.

As a supporting partner of the programme, CSE is using the Every Action Counts evaluator tools to monitor and further improve its own environmental performance. Although it already had strong eco-credentials, with the help of the programme CSE is now using less paper, buying green cleaning products and working on reducing the carbon footprint of its conferences and seminars.

Lucy Hellier, a CSE Senior Energy Advisor working on Every Action Counts said:

“It’s great that free training and materials are available for local communities, clubs and groups through the Every Action Counts programme. If anyone wants some help to make their local area safer, cleaner and more sustainable the Every Action Counts programme is there to help them. We at CSE have already benefited hugely from signing up to it, so we urge other local groups to try it out and see what it can do for them”

All community groups signing up to Every Action Counts between now and December will be entered into a competition to win a free energy audit from CSE for their community building. To enter, groups can simply sign up at www.everyactioncounts.org.uk, remembering to mention that they found the programme through CSE.

To find out more about the free training available call CSE on 0117 929 9950 and ask to speak to Louise or Lucy.
