WRVS announces volunteer week celebrations for 1-7 June

[UKPRwire, Sat Jun 07 2008] This year’s Volunteers’ Week, 1 – 7 June coincides with celebrations of WRVS’ 70th birthday taking place over throughout spring and summer 2008.

WRVS chairman, Ruth Markland, said: “WRVS has achieved so much in the past 70 years and that’s all down to our volunteers. Every one has made a difference to people in their community, from the crisis of the Second World War to the work we do today to help older people stay independent and get more out of life. I want to say a big thank you to each one of our volunteers past and present, you have made WRVS what it is today.”

The difference WRVS volunteers make is shown by the uploading of some of their real life stories of volunteering in homes, in their communities, in hospitals and emergency situations on the WRVS website.

Volunteers' Week is the UK's annual celebration of the work volunteers do. During the Week, WRVS will be holding events and exhibitions across the country to recognise and reward their volunteers and to recruit new volunteers.
