Which Old Mobiles Are Making You Money And Helping The Environment?
Mopay.co.uk launches monthly recycling chart to show which mobiles are making the most money while avoiding harmful landfill
[UKPRwire, Fri Mar 20 2009] With an estimated 100 million redundant mobiles in the UK - worth approximately £1.8 Billion - Mopay.co.uk, one of the UK’s leading online mobile phone recyclers, has launched a new top ten chart of the most popular mobiles recycled in February through their website to help beat the credit crunch and save the environment.
The most popular phone to be recycled last month according to Mopay.co.uk is the Nokia 6300, which can make the owner £40 in cash or £48 in Marks & Spencer’s vouchers. Some old mobiles can be worth up to £300 depending on the make, model and condition.
On average consumers upgrade their mobile every 12-18 months. If the handsets are not disposed of correctly or recycled there is a potential chance of 1,500 tonnes of mobile phones – and their hazardous batteries – ending up in landfill sites each year which can result in damage to our eco-systems.
The top ten recycled handsets for February 09 were:
1.) Nokia 6300
2.) Nokia 3310
3.) Nokia 6230i
4.) Nokia 3410
5.) Nokia 6230
6.) Nokia 6310i
7.) Motorola V3
8.) Sony Ericsson W810
9.) Samsung D900
10.) Nokia 3510i
Simon Walsh, sales and marketing director at Mopay.co.uk said: “When we first starting putting the list together, we were pleased to see a number of older models in the top ten. This shows that the public can still get a decent amount of money for old phones while helping to ensure unwanted mobiles don’t just end up as landfill.
“It is estimated that the cadmium from one single mobile phone battery can pollute up to 600,000 litres of water, which is almost half an Olympic swimming pool, recycling is key to preventing this.”
