Satelliet Browns leading leisure industry furnishing specialists, have won praise for their iconic designs which have helped bring the landmark Lorne Hotel in Glasgow's West End back to life after it lay derelict for several years.
[UKPRwire, Mon Oct 05 2009] Satelliet-Browns, specialist furnishers to the leisure industry, has won widespread praise for its part in bringing an iconic Glasgow Hotel back to life after it had lain derelict for several years.
Businessman Mohammed Azir Sharif has invested millions of pounds in restoring the Lorne Hotel in the city’s West End to its former glory, with Satelliet-Browns furnishing the high profile public areas.
Designer Claire Kinna, a director of Surface ID whose speciality is interior design for bars, clubs and hotels said: “We were delighted with the quality of Satelliet-Browns workmanship and their attention to detail.
“The décor creates a very classy feel with the use of natural brick, dark wood finishes and a lovely light palette, while the furniture really punches out the colour in a very discrete way, which is exactly the effect we were looking for.
“The detail in some of the chairs and sofas is superb. We have wing chairs in black crocodile leather with tan hair-on-hide panels, and really interesting effects like seats and cushions with contrasting coloured piping which you only notice when you sit down.”
The Hotel’s General Manager Martin Lawrence said: “Bringing the hotel back to life has been a massive task, but we are really pleased with the results we have achieved and how the furniture compliments the overall design.”
Harvey Ockrim Managing Director of Satelliet-Browns said: “The Lorne Hotel has been a great project to work on, but it has also been very challenging.
“A lot of the furniture was either totally bespoke or required our craftsmen to re-upholster some ranges in specific materials to achieve the desired effect for the client.
“We even built some of the furniture from scratch including two massive sofas where all we had to work from was a sketch of how they should look. I am glad to say the finished articles look absolutely fantastic.”
Peter Carter Satelliet-Browns National Sales Manager said: “It was great to work with clients who had such a clear vision of how they wanted the furniture to look, and how the materials and colours they chose would blend in.
“The massive sofas are simply spectacular, and just make you feel like sinking into them and staying all day.
“We also had to source and a lot of the fabrics and coverings for the chairs from crocodile leather for the wing and tub chairs to hair-on-hide leather for the back panels. Then our craftsmen had to pull it all together.
“The specifications were very exacting right down to different colours of piping on some of the chairs and cushions, but I have to say the over-all effect is quite stunning”.
The Lorne Hotel is going through a ‘soft’ opening phase with the spacious Bilberry Cocktail Bar area, and the Bukhara restaurant, and conservatory up and running while phase two including the 107 bedrooms and conference and banqueting suites for up to 300 will follow shortly.
Mr Lawrence added: “The Lorne Hotel has a fantastic location in part of Glasgow’s West End which is undergoing a major revival and only half a mile from the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre
“It has taken us two years of sheer hard work to get the hotel the way we wanted it, including taking everything back to the bare walls and refitting the entire building.
“Now that the furniture is in place the Hotel has come alive, and we feel we have given the area a tremendous asset, with local people as well as the West crowd using it to the full.”
