The online wine gift business decided to make the move after studies showed that missing a delivery was a big bugbear of buying online.

But in spite of the growing online shopping phenomenon, problems with delivery are leaving some consumers frustrated.

Even recent figures shows up to half of online deliveries cannot take place because there is no one at home. Peter Ahl, Managing Director of Serenata Wines, exposed he had now created evening and the "avoid school run" delivery times, adding to the am and pm slots. The online wine transport company has also opened a free Saturday delivery service.

He said: "Parents who do the school run often miss very important deliveries in the morning or afternoon. "Allowing people to schedule am/pm/evening/avoid school-run or Saturday deliveries will help individuals avoid staying at home for a whole day to take care of a delivery. Some people I know stay or work at home some days to be there for the delivery. So while online shopping has certainly saved us lots of time, the delivery part can nevertheless be a concern."
