[UKPRwire, Sun Aug 24 2008] We’ve all been practising all summer long and now the time has come too really ‘go for the grill’ proving just how great a BBQ nation Britain is. Forget the Olympics; whilst 18 Gold’s and 41 medals so far is an outstanding Team GB total making us 3rd overall in the medals table - the UK has now secured another Gold; a Barbi Gold and this time were top of the Grill!
Yes, the UK is now officially the biggest BBQ nation in Europe, beating the Germans not only in the Olympics but also into second place again in the European Barbi stakes, with 95 million BBQ occasions last year versus Germany’s measly 80 million. Even the Aussies can’t catch us, both in the Olympics and on the Barbi, as they could only manage a ‘daggy’ 28 million Barbi’s.
According to NBBQA President Brian George “BBQ and alfresco summer eating & entertaining has, despite some poor weather this year, now become the summer alfresco thing to do! Not only have we all become a nation of Barbi ‘foodies’ but we also BBQ more then anyone else and this Sunday we confidently expect the target of 5 million BBQ held across the UK, will be comfortably beaten as supermarket shelves are stripped bare of anything remotely grillable. Indeed we predict that sales of BBQ food and drink will pass the £100 million mark for this day alone”
