HOSPICES TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

The John Taylor Hospice was one of three to receive a share of over £10,000 from the Birmingham office of accountancy firm, Ernst and Young.

[UKPRwire, Mon Jan 21 2008] The John Taylor Hospice was one of three to receive a share of over £10,000 from the Birmingham office of accountancy firm, Ernst and Young.

Ray Woods from the League of Friends of the Hospice, joined representatives from Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge, at the presentation held at the firm’s Birmingham offices.

He said, “We have relatively few corporate supporters and the support of a major Company like Ernst and Young is vital to us – not only in terms of the fantastic amount of money that they have raised – but the help that it gives us in publicising the work of the Hospice.

“I would like to join with the other Hospices in thanking all the staff at Ernst and Young for all their hard work and generous support.”

Ernst and Young staff have also helped in a voluntary capacity at the Hospice.

Ronnie Bowker, senior partner at the Birmingham office said, “Corporate responsibility is a big focus for Ernst & Young and it’s important for a firm of our size to give something back to the business world and community. In turn, volunteering and getting involved in community projects help to develop our employees’ experience and skills in their day-to-day working lives.”

Employees at Ernst & Young held a variety of activities to raise the funds, everything from ‘casual dress days’, to selling bacon rolls, raffle tickets and even a Rugby World Cup sweepstake.

The John Taylor Hospice serves a population of over 400,000 in north and east Birmingham including Sutton Coldfield and adjoining areas. It has an inpatient unit, a day Hospice and Community Nursing and Bereavement Support teams, who assist the families of patients (including children).
