A much-loved Gnosall GP has been shortlisted for a prestigious healthcare award following 30 years of loyal service to the village.
[UKPRwire, Thu Aug 27 2009] Dr Ian Greaves, one of four partners at Gnosall Surgery, has been nominated in the Clinical Excellence category as part of South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust’s (PCT’s) inaugural Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence Awards.
Born and bred in the village, Dr Greaves is also a trained dentist but became a full-time GP 30 years ago.
No stranger to awards, the former Adams Grammar School student already has dozens of accolades to his name as well as being a member of the Fellowship of the Royal College of GPs.
The winners will be announced at an awards evening – the first the PCT has staged - on September 9 at the Staffordshire County Showground in Stafford.
With 8,000 patients on the practice’s books, he has picked up more than a few friends along the way.
He said: “We’re very lucky to have this modern, purpose-built accommodation, which is a one-stop shop with a chemists, dental shop and integrated services for the community.
“What we have here is fantastic and it’s a wonderful village. We’ve had a very active patients’ forum for the past 10 years which has raised thousands of pounds for the centre through raffles, car boot sales and whist drives.
“As healthcare professionals, we feel appreciated. The people have become friends over the years and I have wonderful partners and been totally supported by the PCT they’ve allowed freedom and flexibility in our contracts and have rewarded us for seeking excellence.”
Gnosall Surgery also offers minor surgery, men’s health, dermatology, physiotherapy, chiropody, outreach, psychiatry and dementia services.
“I’m really delighted to have been nominated for an award but this isn’t about me – it really is about the patients, and my partners here.”
South Staffordshire PCT launched the Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence Awards in April and received nearly 100 nominations from patients and the public in South Staffordshire who had identified quality of care and sheer excellence of service and wanted to recognise this by nominating staff, carers and members of the public who have contributed to health and social care locally.
A panel of judges consisting of five independent representatives had the difficult job of selecting the shortlist within the six categories which will now go forward to the Awards ceremony in September.
