[UKPRwire, Fri Jun 29 2007] After a gruelling 22 mile cycle ride through the Lea Valley, tired but happy playground equipment manufacturer Paul Quinn was able to recuperate knowing his efforts had raised more than £700 for the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD).
Paul, who is managing director of Watford based Monster Play Systems commented: “As a company we are regular sponsors of CAFOD, so when this event was arranged we felt that it was an excellent idea, not just to raise funds for a worthy cause but a great way to help keep fit at the same time. It was hard going, but with more than 60 people taking part on the day it was a social event as well. Overall it was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
Paul is the local parish representative for CAFOD within the Watford deanery. The UK-based international aid agency works to alleviate poverty and suffering in developing countries. It raises significant funds every year and works with trusted partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America to promote long-term development, respond to emergencies and raise public awareness of the causes of poverty.
Tony Sheen, who organised the event for CAFOD added: “One of the many projects we support in Africa is providing bicycles for nurses who need to cover wide areas in Nigeria supporting people with HIV. The Pedal for Poverty event was not only a statement of our support for green issues, worldwide, but also raised important funds for our work overseas. With Paul’s help we smashed our £3500 target, and the event raised over £5000.”
