Stafford team behind new IT system nominated for Health award
A team from Stafford have jointly been shortlisted for a Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence’ Award, organised by South Staffordshire Primary Care Trust (PCT).
[UKPRwire, Thu Aug 27 2009] South Staffordshire and Shropshire NHS Foundation Trust’s (SSSFT) ‘Health Informatics Service Hybrid Implementation’ Team have all been nominated in the Technical Excellence category for their role in developing a paperless electronic patient record, and have transferred patients’ records to this system.
The six-year strategy - which involved developing a brand new IT package from scratch - now means doctors, nurses, social workers and other health professionals, as well as some patients, can access electronic records and easily communicate with each other, instantly if need be.
SSSFT Health and Social Care Systems Implementations Manager Chris Thorley said:
“We decided we would pilot the clinical portion of the new IT system with the South Staffordshire Mental Health Foundation Trust teams with mentally disorder offenders in South Staffordshire.
“The pilot was very successful, and gave lots of ideas to improve the system. Now it is live across the mental health trust, and is being prepared to roll out in Shropshire.
“We’re really pleased to have been nominated for this award and we hope it continues to evolve to assist other clinical areas across the PCT and nationally. As far as I know, we’re the first Trust to have completed this type of transformation from start to finish,” Chris concluded.
The team nominated involved technical experts, clinicians, medical records staff and service users.
The Patients’ Choice – Quality and Excellence Awards were launched by South Staffordshire PCT in April to recognise high quality services, positive patient experiences, organisation efficiency and excellence in individuals or team achievement.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony – the first the Trust has held – on September 9 at the Staffordshire County Showground.
