WRVS centre in Banbury to hold open day on 27 September 2008

[UKPRwire, Thu Sep 25 2008] WRVS Cornhill Centre and Café in Banbury will be hosting an open day and information fair for older people and are all set to offer a fun and informative day celebrating services available including activity demonstrations of the Wii Fit, keep fit, dancing, and from Cherwell District Council, indoor skittles and new age kurling.

The health bus will be on-site with community health trainers offering advice and guidance on health issues.

The open day will be held at the WRVS Cornhill Centre, Castle Street, Banbury OX 16 5NT. It will run from 11am to 3pm and will take place on 27 September.

There will be free taster sessions in complementary therapies and a cookery demonstration along with information stalls from WRVS and the Oxford County Council Community Development Team, the Low Vision Services, the Trading Standards Team, Help The Aged and the Fire Service to name a few covering subjects such as home safety and healthy living for older people.

The café will also be open serving a range of healthy snacks and refreshments and there will be a raffle and five-a-day bag giveaways on offer.

Liz Reed, centre development manager said: “The open day is a fantastic opportunity to pop in, have a cuppa and see for yourself not only what we do, but also what other services are available to older people in the district. We’re a friendly bunch with a team of dedicated volunteers supporting everything we do. Everyone is welcome to attend and free local transport to and from the event can be provided by calling us on 01295 264214.”

Local health trainers, Tina Armstrong and Gita Kassan-Dixon said: “Pop in to our health bus, outside the centre, meet with one of our team and have a chat about supporting you towards a healthier lifestyle. Let us work together on achieving your aims- you will soon feel fitter and healthier!”

WRVS invites all to come and join WRVS to celebrate and promote the wide range of services available to older people in the local area. Whether you’re are thinking of becoming one of over 400 regulars of the centre, are looking for volunteering opportunities or just interested in knowing what is going on then come along and help us to enjoy the day.
