WRVS has launched its election challenge to the major political parties

WRVS calls on Labour, The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats to help more older people

[UKPRwire, Wed Sep 30 2009] WRVS has launched its election challenge to the major political parties. The charity is calling on whichever party forms the next UK government to sign up to four pledges that will help more people live the life they want in old age.

“At the moment a quarter of older people say their quality of life has declined since turning 65. WRVS thinks there is an opportunity in the next five years to turn that statistic around and build communities where every older person can live how they want. We want to work with the next government and other partners to make that happen” explained WRVS chief executive, Lynne Berry.

The charity’s election challenge calls on politicians and other policy makers to:

* Change attitudes to old age
* Reform social care
* Join up services for older people
* Empower people to help each other and themselves

The aim of the pledges is to enable more older people to carrying on doing the things they enjoy and achieve their ambitions throughout old age.

The charity will be at Labour Party conference is Brighton this week and at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester from 5 October to promote the challenge to politicians and other policy makers.
