International Wine & Spirit Competition Communicator of the Year 2007 announced

The International Wine & Spirit Competition last night at Vinitaly, Verona, announced their 'Communicator of the Year 2007' as Tim Atkin MW.

[UKPRwire, Thu Mar 29 2007] At last night’s opening Gala at Vinitaly, in Verona, The International Wine & Spirit Competition awarded their annual Trophy for ‘Communicator of the Year’ to renowned wine writer and broadcaster, Tim Atkin MW.

This award is determined by a panel of judges in recognition of the individual who has contributed the most to wine or spirits consumer communication, over the last twelve months. For the 11th year running, Veronafiere, organiser of Vinitaly are the sponsor and they flew Tim Atkin out to receive the Trophy.

Said IWSC Marketing Manager, Lesley Gray; “Tim beat off some strong competition from other highly regarded journalists such as Sarah Jane Evans, Jamie Goode & Matt Skinner and innovative Chris Scott, who founded tasting club Thirty-Fifty, however we were unanimous in our admiration for the breadth & depth of Tim’s work; across his column in The Observer & Observer Food Monthly, Woman & Home magazine, BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen and Great Food Live and the innumerable tastings which he leads, especially the acclaimed wine course at Bank Restaurant in London as well as beginners’ wine evenings for Speed Dater.”

On collecting the Trophy, Tim added;
“I'm lucky to have a job that gives me pleasure, enjoyment and intellectual stimulation. In 25 years as a wine writer, I’ve never tired of the diversity of my chosen subject or of the people who make great wine. It's a pleasure to be able to convey this to consumers, either in face-to-face tastings or through my columns and TV work. I’d like to thank the IWSC and Veronafiere for giving me this prestigious award. I am honoured to follow in the footsteps of so many great wine communicators. ”

A formal presentation of this award will be made at the IWSC Annual Awards Banquet on November 6th 2007 at Old Billingsgate, London.
