New satirical news and sport service launched
[UKPRwire, Thu Apr 26 2007] TWO of Scotland’s least respected journalists have joined forces to launch The Daily Mash, a new satirical website featuring spoof new stories, comment and opinion.
thedailymash.co.uk will be updated each and every day by its team of joke writers led by journalists Neil Rafferty and Paul Stokes, making it Scotland’s first daily professional satire website.
It will satirise the worlds of politics, news, arts, culture, film, television, business and sport. There will also be weekly opinion polls, competitions and amusing photo captions.
The Daily Mash founders Rafferty and Stokes have more than 35 years professional writing experience between them but are still two of Scotland's least esteemed journalists. Rafferty has held positions with the Press Association, Business AM and the Sunday Times. Stokes is a former columnist with Scotland on Sunday, the Daily Record and the Scotsman, who started his career as a reporter on the Meat Trades Journal.
Rafferty said: "Scotland didn't have a satirical website updated every day with juvenile humour and innuendo, so we decided to give her one."
Stokes added: "Scotland is a grown-up country facing some major decisions about its future as a nation. It just seemed the ideal time for us to do something footling and small-minded like The Daily Mash.”
The commercial side is headed up by two former national newspaper executives, Nicola Young and Kirsten Morrison.
