The Caravan Channel, one of the UK's very few successful narrowcast TV programmes celebrates 70 show . . . and keeps going!
[UKPRwire, Fri Jun 26 2009] One of the UK's most highly-targeted narrowcast programmes, The Caravan Channel, is just coming up to it's 70th programme over its 3-year life, and is filled with specialist advertising.
Made for Britain's estimated 800,000 caravan and motorhome-owning families, and shown by niche broadcaster Information TV on Sky channel 166/Freesat 402, the programme is showing record volumes of t advertising in its July 2009 showings.
Advertisers include one of the UK's "big 3" caravan manufacturers, a specialist caravan importer and dealer, and a leading accessory manufacturer, and the programme is sponsored one of Britain's biggest specialist insurance companies.
"Narrowcast programmes like The Caravan Channel are a part of the future that is rarely understood by advertising people - except for some farsighted individuals. It brings TV advertising within the budgets of companies which have only ever thought of magazine quarter pages, and it offers them easy routes to get broadcast to an audience they know will like the product," said Chris Gosling of production company Serious Leisure TV.
"We'll make them a simple little 30-second slide and voice ad inside the package, and we can give them more ways of achieving viewer feedback - because our programmes are so carefully aimed and pointed att he audience."
Serious Leisure has just launched two new programme strands on the same channel - Goodbye, 9 to 5! aimed at over 55s, and Countryside Britain, pointed toward commercial and recreational countryside users. The pair air at the same time, 6pm on Information TV, Sky 166 and Freesat 402 on alternate days, Monday to Saturday.
"Unlike many mainstream TV shows, which come fully fledged and developed in whatever form the broadcaster thinks will drag in an audience, both our new shows are development projects, aimed at gradually growing a dedicated audience and advertising community, and inviting both to share in the programme's final format," Gosling added. "both shows have interactive websites, where viewers will be gradually invited to contribute more and more to them shows themselves."
