Brits being squeezed financially say National Homebuyers
Many families face serious financial difficulties as the cost of living rises faster than incomes.
[UKPRwire, Fri Feb 15 2008] Centre-right think-tank the Centre for Policy Studies claims that the amount of tax paid by the average Briton has increased by £7,800 since Labour came to power.
In addition, rising mortgage costs and other outgoings have left many homeowners struggling with financial difficulties.
"The combination of stagnating earnings, sharp increases in tax, excessive debt, rising effective interest rates and growing household running costs means that British households are more vulnerable to, and less prepared for, any economic downturn," said Charlie Elphicke from the Centre for Policy Studies.
"The government's increases in taxation and the recent availability of easy credit are a potentially toxic mixture," he added.
To add to the problems experienced by homeowners, Nationwide recently revealed that the average UK property lost 0.1 per cent of its value in January.
It signalled the third consecutive month of price falls.
"Property owners looking to achieve a fast property sale are encouraged to view options away from the traditional open market [estate agency] sales route" says property expert Julian King.
"Selling a property through an estate agent incurs the cost of a Hips pack, estate agency fees and often does not afford the seller the speed of sale required".
